Helen is a registered nurse with more than 31 years of experience in long-term care. She is the only two-time NCAL Administrator of the Year Award winner. As an NCAL Board member, she was Chair of its Finance and Policy Committee and Quality Committee. She was a co-chair of the Independent Owner Council and sat on the AHCA Business Management Committee. In 2012, she was appointed to the American Health Care Association's Clinical Practice Committee and served on AHCA’s Quality Cabinet. In addition to these commitments, she has testified as an expert witness in assisted living litigation and spoken to many state associations about quality in assisted living and dementia care best practices. Helen was a previous task force member of the National Association of Board of Examiners for long-term care administrators.
Helen is a past chair of the National Center for Assisted Living and a past board member of the American Health Care Association. She spent 13 years on the Nebraska HealthCare Association board and remains a Nebraska Health Care Foundation Board member.
In 2011, Helen was named the Bellevue, Nebraska Business Woman of the Year and was given an honorable mention as Nebraska’s
Nurse of the Year. In December 2011, she was named one of the top 40 professionals under 40 in Omaha, Neb.
Helen was the keynote speaker for the Midlands Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association in April 2015. She has presented to many AHCA/NCAL state affiliates on quality in assisted living and dementia-related care topics, and she was a keynote speaker for the Iowa Assisted Living Association in 2017.
Helen is featured in many Nebraska Public Television shows as an expert on dementia care and education.
